ASRock BIOS Update: Excellent Customer Support
A couple of days ago, I updated my ASRock motherboard B650 Pro RS with their latest BIOS, version 4.03.
Although the 4.03 BIOS booted and works just fine, I noticed an error message "EFI stub: Warning: unable to unprotect memory range" while booting into my Arch Linux — probably invisible for Windows users and most Linux users.
So I sent an email to ASRock in Taiwan, giving them the error message I was seeing while booting and explaining that, although there was an error message, Linux booted and worked correctly.
To be honest, I didn’t think I’d receive an answer because it was just an info@asrock.com.tw address. (In France, sadly, it’s pretty much guaranteed you’d never receive a reply.)
But, lo and behold, a couple of days later, I received an email saying that my mail had been passed along to their BIOS team.
Okay, I thought — at least that’s a good start.
Today, four days since I sent my first email, I received an email asking me if I could test a new version of their BIOS, which I did, and it boots and works perfectly with no error message.
I replied that the new test BIOS worked, and once again received a follow-up email: "Thank you for your report. We will phase this change in our next production BIOS soon"
This is my second Asrock MB, as I have an old one on my server that is still running fine after over ten years of service
In this day and age, many companies, especially the bigger ones, don’t give a damn about customer relations. So I was pleased to see that ASRock does. Not only do they read and answer their emails, but they also look into errors found and fix them.
As we say in French, Chapeau.
You can be sure that I'll continue to use their products in the future.
Update: February 26. If you have an Asrock B650 RS Pro, there is a new BIOS version 4.10, which works perfectly
