Favero Assioma Power Pedals and Cycling Dynamics

I've been using my new Favero power pedals for a couple of weeks now

As I mentioned in a previous post, I really like them. They clip in just as well as my Shimano XTRs, though they are a little heavier.

I regularly, in fact, after every ride, I check my power readings in Garmin Connect to see whether I’ve managed to improve over previous rides.

Two days ago, for the very first time, I noticed Cycling Dynamics data appearing in Garmin Connect

It even shows that my feet are not central on the pedals

“Wow,” I thought, “this is really useful! But why haven’t I seen this on my earlier rides?”

Today, after deleting and re-adding the Favero sensors to both my Epix watch and Edge 530, I went out again.

Why did I re-add the sensors? I did this because my previous ride hadn’t recorded any power data for the first 5 km, probably due to a connection issue. So I deleted and re-added them. Notice 'them', it's important.

When adding the Favero sensors, I had two sensors appear on my Garmin devices: one named 56448 and a second one named AssiomaPRO57448. I had never thought more about this. Now, or even when I added the pedals the first time.

Lo and behold, at the end of the ride today, no Cycling Dynamics again, like all my other rides before.

So I started reading some forums, questions on the web and even AI, and saw a couple of posts stating that Cycling Dynamics only works with ANT+ connections and not Bluetooth. Not enough bandwidth on BT, some said.

Checking the details on my Epix and Edge, the sensor named 56448 was indicated as an ANT+ connection, BUT the AssiomaPRO57448 was Bluetooth.

It's then that I realised that the pedals actually send out both ANT+ and BT connection info. The Garmin devices capture and save both. BUT you only need one, the Ant+ and having both screws up Garmin Connect.

I also realised that both my Watch and the Edge by default used the BT connection first and not the ANT+, that's why the Cycling Dynamics weren't being 'read' or 'saved'.

Now I have only the ANT+ connections saved on my Garmin Epix and Edge, and now all works well.

I have all the Cycling Dynamics showing as they should be in Garmin Connect. Perfect

👉 Tip: If you’re using Favero pedals with Garmin, forget the Bluetooth connections and only use Ant+.
