I don't run, I plod

I run when I want to, some sport other than my regular CrossFit, Hyrox sessions or on my bikes.

For my age, 67 in 2025, I work out quite a lot. Often five times, sometimes six times a week, as I said, Crossfit,  Biking or Hyrox are my main sports, probably doing too much at my age, but who cares.  So running is only a couple of times per month as it's my least preferred sport.

I quite like trail running. But since I broke an ankle in 2018and lost my hearing because of that injury, my wife gives me stick if I trail run, so I do most runs on the road, or at the local track, boring...

So why do I continue to run? I believe that you need to hit your body muscles with many different sports, so that your muscles never get used to what you're doing.

I also like to try, I did say try ? and keep my VO2max results. If you don't run, your VO2max will just disappear from Garmin Connect. That's not an option for me.

I also have VO2max results for my bike rides, as I have power meter pedals on both my road and mountain bikes. As I regularly ride both bikes, they show my results in both Garmin and Strava. Note, you need power meter pedals or cranks on your bike to have VO2max results.
Pedals that I've just bought for my MTB Van Nicholas TauregFavero Assioma MX2 power pedals

Anyway, I run, or rather plod, and I'm getting slower and slower.

Yesterday I ran 5.3 kms, with lots of wind,  and it took me 34 mins, with a pace at 6.29 /km that's slow even for me 😭

Windy run with a solid tempo pace, spending most time in zones 2 and 3, showing consistent effort despite being slower than your usual route.

Your afternoon run covered 5.3 km with a solid relative effort of 77, mostly spent in Tempo and Threshold heart rate zones. Compared to your recent activity history dominated by mountain biking and weight training, this run is a bit of a change-up. The windy conditions might have influenced your slightly slower pace compared to previous times on this route.

An excuse for running slow, Ok, but I still plod, rather than run. 😰
